Messy Mama Makes Crochet Pumpkin Bunting
It’s not for lack of hooking that I’ve kinda let the blog slide a little, but mainly because life just keeps on being so full-on that although hooking is my sanity saver I rarely get a chance to write anything up! I really wanted to get this one written up before the end of October though so I’ve made a HUGE effort 😉

I think I’m a bit obsessed with pumpkins this year…

This cute pumpkin bunting uses orange, green and black dk acrylic yarns, a 4mm hook, and a darning needle. I’ve used US terms throughout. Joining is done with a slip stitch unless otherwise noted.

Special stitches: Foundation Single Crochet; Foundation Half Double Crochet. I’ve linked to a good tutorial for the Fsc, and I’ve also tried to write them out longhand…

Pumpkin (in orange)
Work 10sc into a magic ring, join.
R1) sc, (hdc, dc), (2dc), (2dc), (dc, hdc), sc, (hdc, dc), (2dc), (2dc), (dc, hdc), join (18st).
R2) sc, hdc, dc, (3dc), (2dc), (2dc), (3dc), dc, hdc, sc, hdc, dc, (3dc), (2dc), (2dc), (3dc), dc, hdc, join (30st). Fasten off.
I decided that the “proper” side of my pumpkins was just too neat for what I wanted, so I turned them all over to use the more heavily textured reverse as my front.
Use black yarn and a darning needle to embroider eyes, nose and a mouth.

Green leaves / joining
Work 15ch between pumpkins.
For each “leaf” work a foundation single crochet, a foundation half double, and another foundation single crochet.

I’ve tried to write the stitches out longhand too though so here goes…
Ch15. Slip stitch into back loop of the 4th stitch before the top sc in the pumpkin.
Leaf – 3 stitches long, worked as a foundation row
(Fsc) Chain 2. Insert hook through second chain from hook, yarn over and draw a loop through. Yarn over, draw through one loop on the hook (creating a “chain”). Yarn over again and draw through both loops on the hook.
(Fhdc) Yarn over, insert hook into the two bottoms strands of the chain you created in the above stitch, yarn over and draw a loop through. (3 loops on hook). Yarn over, draw through one loop (creating the next “chain”). Yarn over again and draw yarn through all 3 loops on the hook.
(Fsc) Insert hook through the two bottom strands of the chain created in the previous stitch. Yarn over and draw a loop through. Yarn over and draw through one loop (creating the next “chain”). Yarn over again and draw through both loops on the hook. (Leaf complete.)
Stalk
Sc into top sc in the pumpkin.
Ch3. Hdc into 2nd chain from hook. Sc into next chain loop. Slip stitch into the side of the sc made into the pumpkin. (Stalk complete.)
Leaf
Chain 2, and work another “leaf” in the same way as before. Slip stitch into the 4th back loop on the other side of the “stalk” to complete the two leaves and stalk.
Chain 15 and begin attaching another pumpkin.
