Somewhere over the Rainbow

I’ve never really “done” rainbows before. But, I have really rather fallen head over heels for them in this baby blanket and hat set! The yarn is Scheepeswol Cotton 8, a 4 ply cotton, and it is so utterly gorgeously floppy and smooth and soft.

Yarn: Sheepjeswol Cotton 8 in 50g balls of Fuchsia, Light Orange, Canary, Light Green, Green, Turquoise, Blue, Purple.

The Blanket

I used a 4mm hook for the blanket, working the pattern as follows, each section beginning with purple, then working outwards through blue, turquoise, green, light green, canary, light orange and fuchsia.

Please note I have not specified how many chain stitches to work at the beginning of each colour (although I used a ch2); and I have used US crochet terms throughout.

Purple foundation ring of 4ch, sl st to join.
First section: one dc granny square round of each colour, working ch1 between each set of 3dc, and ch2 in each corner.
Second section: two dc granny square rounds of each colour, this time NO ch between each set of 3dc, but still working ch2 in corners.
Third section: two hdc granny square rounds of each colour, working ch1 between each set of 3hdc, and ch2 in each corner.
Border: Purple. Join yarn in any corner chain space. Begin with (2hdc, ch2, 2hdc) in corner chain space. Work one solid hdc round in purple, working stitches in back loop only, and 1hdc in each chain space as well. Work (2hdc, ch2, 2hdc) in corners.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
